What's Holding You Back at Work --- You're Too Needy

It's good to ask for help, to get a 2nd opinion, to double-check once in a while.

Some behaviors, especially repeated behaviors, make you hard to work with and exhaust your colleagues and managers. 

You get labeled as "needy" and "requires a lot of support"— which can hurt your relationships and slow your career growth and opportunities.

Consider behaviors, attitudes and habits like:

• You hog all the time, conversation, & energy -  frequently causing conversations & meetings to run late so that you get your point in
• You need constant input, collaboration, oversight or validation
• You frequently fail to honor commitments and need extra time, budget, or special allowances 
• You cannot make a decision on your own
• You don't know how to do your job and don't try to learn; instead you lean on others to do it for you
• You don't read the room, ignoring body language and verbal cues

Pause and observe your behaviors and habits. If you find you're regularly committing some of these, you can take steps to lead yourself to more assertive, confident and independent behaviors.

For leaders, if you've got people on your team who exhibit these behaviors, there are specific steps you can take to set the right expectations and coach them to be less of a burden on you and the team.
