AK Helm

The Boss Whisperer

AK Helm cultivates UnMachined℠ leaders. She made the word up. It means a leader who has built the capabilities no algorithm can copy: judgment, discernment, presence, and the nerve to have a hard conversation.

These are essential skills for every organization, and most urgent for the ones she works with most often: those moving through transformation and AI adoption. She turns their managers into intentional leaders.

She Helps Companies Build Better Leaders.

AK is a former Fortune 500 leader turned speaker, facilitator, and leadership coach who builds aligned leadership. Companies in transformation call her when sound strategy stalls because the managers are pulling in different directions. She developed the Helm Method℠, a practical framework that helps leaders identify and release outdated models and unintentional habits, replacing them with awareness, accountability, and intentional leadership.

She is on a mission to cultivate intentional leaders who use their power for the good of themselves and those around them. And she brings every bit of her 25 years of experience to that mission, in every program, every workshop, every session.

When you care about building better companies, you start with building better leaders.

The Mission

Cultivate intentional leaders who use their power for the good of themselves and those around them.

Lead Yourself. Then Lead Others. Be a Boss.

AK believes we cultivate leadership. Each one of us has the potential to develop and grow in life and at work. Sometimes, we just need a bit of guidance, maybe a whisper.

The skills that matter most are the ones the machines can't learn.

Meet AK Helm, Boss at the Helm

The Vibe Coding Humans Concept

It's the concept of intentionally shaping how people experience work and each other, developing the humanity skills no algorithm can replicate. Vibe Coding Humans is what Boss at the Helm does, every day.

Companies promote managers for how well they perform, then blame them for not knowing how to lead. Those are two different jobs.

Nobody teaches the second one, so managers guess. And the company pays for it.

Companies have always known their managers were underprepared. They put a bandage on it and sent them back out to play. The bandage no longer works. The job got bigger. A manager has to lead humans and machines at the same time, and nobody developed them for either.

AK founded Boss at the Helm for the managers nobody taught to lead.

Four Acquisitions.
Four Different Seats.

AK spent 25 years watching this manager gap from the inside.

As SVP at a tech company, she led through an acquisition and was handed every added responsibility that came with it, with half the resources after the personnel cuts. She did it anyway, then went looking for the manual she should have been given fifteen years earlier. There was not one.

Every company she worked in had the same problem, and the larger the company, the larger the problem got.

She has carried the people and the P&L across technology, healthcare, airlines, telecom, and more.

The Receipts

A $55 million P&L in enterprise technology.

A global customer centricity program for a healthcare company, launched in ten languages in ten weeks.

An SAP and routing rollout at a bankrupt industrial services company, before smartphones existed.

Four acquisitions from four different seats, from a high school job where a hotel bought the restaurant out from under her, to the executive table where she was one of the leaders deciding who stayed.

That is where the Helm Method℠ came from. Not a theory. A gap she lived in.

Three Problems She Gets Called About.

Every organization arrives with a version of one of these. Watch whichever one sounds like your company right now.

How to Help Your Managers Lead

You promoted your best performers. Some of them are sinking, and not because they lack ability. Nobody taught them the second job.

Why Strategy Fails

The plan was sound and the deal made sense. Integration stalls in the middle, where managers carry two cultures and run old playbooks.

AI Does Not Replace Your Best People

AI arrived faster than anyone planned for. Your best people are what make it work, and that is a leadership problem before it is a tools problem.

Human Intelligence

The Human Behind the Work.

I am mildly irreverent, smile too much, and laugh too loud, which is probably why my sessions feel less like training and more like a conversation you needed to have.

  • Fan of learning, travel, wine, and books (sometimes all at once)
  • Ally of kindness and compassion
  • Prefers dogs, but will absolutely cuddle a cat
  • Believes in intention with aligned action
  • Teacher, speaker, leader, wife, bonus-mom, grandma to 3 girls, 1 boy, and 2 pups
  • Most likely to be found out in the woods
  • Loves stargazing, but low-key suspects the sky might be a hoax
  • Always happy to meet & hang with you (and even happier to go home)
  • Currently training for a gold medal in junk journaling
